Strange ways of atonement
I stopped by a local gas station this morning. The attendant was apparently someone I went to High School with. I know this because I have some memory of seeing her in that time of my life and also when she went to give me my change she called me by name. This woman would probably seem overweight and quite unattractive to most of you. When she received some small piece of recognition from me (a smile and a "thank you dear") she lit-up with amusement. This woman, for some reason, held me in high regard. Dear follower, I tell you that i'm a very dirty soul and this woman, because of some station I held at a previous time in my life, holds me in a high place. This woman probably has one of the most beautiful hearts on this earth, but because of the way our society functions, she will probably feel sadness a lot more than happiness. She will probably be treated less like an equal more times than others. She will probably give more than she EVER will receive in this life and that stops my heart. Because we pass judgement more times than we pass the butter, this womans life is horrible maimed. She will probably settle for less. She will probably get stuck with the fourth or fifth best. She will probably not live or be as happy as she could be. Dear gas station attendant, my heart goes to you. My love goes to you.
